Production/Recording
Throughout my years as a musician I have recorded many times, developing a fascination with the recording and production process.
Having worked alongside many top producers, I have picked up key techniques and skills that allow me to create proffesional sounding recordings on relatively humble budgets.
Over the years I have written and produced many EP's and Albums for my own bands and musical projects and have produced, mixed and mastered EP's and albums for a number of bands and artists.
I have also produced music for Universal Group and Warner Brothers.
With the general lack of funding musicians seem to face these days, recording can be a frustrating process.
With studio time not coming cheap, so often musicians and bands find themselves cutting corners and rushing things in order to get there music finished within a set time and budget.
So often with dissapointing results.
What i can offer is a way of recording and producing your music to an extremely high standard in a relaxed and stress free environment.
Rather than charging by the hour, I tend to work out an overall budget for the project based on the musician or bands circumstances.
My studio based at my home is set up for guitar, bass keys and vocal tracking as well as eding, mixing and mastering. My set up is completely mobile so drum tracking or anything else that requires more space can be achieved without neccesarily stepping foot in a recording studio therefore eliminating one of the main expenses most bands have to account for.
I have a large collection of top class mics and pre amps meaning that all instruments (including a full size drum kit) can be recorded on location in a rehearsal space, house or anywhere thats comfortable for the musician or band in question.
Other instruments such as guitars, keys, bass and vocals can be recorded at my home studio. Here i have numerous classic mics, guitars, amps, pedals, cabinets and pre amps which are available to be used if required.
Everything is recorded into Logic pro with plenty of top end plug ins available.
When recording is completed I can provide a finished Master on CD as well as any neccesary file formats for uploading music to facebook, soundcloud etc.
Mixing
If you've recorded a song, E.P or Album yourself and feel that you can't get it sounding the way you wanted, maybe i can help?
The key to a good mix is getting each sonic element within the track to sit comfortably in it's own space or frequency, as well as getting rid of unneccesary low frequencies which eat away at valuable headroom.
It is also important to to create width and depth with the sound by using panning, EQ and reverb.
Getting the levels of each instrument just right and getting them working together as a whole is also essential.
Adding excitement and punch to the track can also be achieved through use of compression and other effects.
My musical ear and studio experience allows me to help make these decisions and carve the track into an intelligable and coherent final mix.
I'm currently offering mixing for £50 per track
Please contact me for details regarding file formats etc
Mastering
Mastering is the final creative stage of the production process.
If you've got your E.P or Album completed but want to get that finishing sparkle, loudness and depth to your track that makes it stand up against commercialy released recordings, you need to get it mastered.
The mastering process includes the appliance of EQ, compression, limiting, stereo width enhancement, removal of noise, hiss etc.
It also includes track ordering, topping and tailing, and converting to various file types for CD manufacture and Internet file sharing.
Mastering can't make a truly awful mix sound good, but can make a huge difference to good and sometimes even average recordings.
I'm currently offering a rate of £20 per track for mastering.
Simply send me a 24bit, 44.1 khz bounce of your track, free from any clipping and master buss EQ, compression etc and i'll send you back a fully mastered version of your track on a CD in Red Book standard format (with text that identifies the track, performer and recording title) as well as which ever other file formats you may require.
